How to check your Defibtech Lifeline Defibrillator

Maintaining your Lifeline AED is a very simple task that is made up from a few easy steps that are necessary to make sure that your AED is in working order when you need it. It is important to not miss a single step when checking your AED, so we made a list for you.

defibtech-status-indicator.png1. Check that the Active Status Indicator is flashing green.

The Active Status Indicator (“ASI”) is located in the upper corner of the AED and indicates the operational readiness state of the unit. It will periodically flash green to indicate a fully functional condition. If it is flashing red or not flashing at all, the AED needs attention. If the ASI is not flashing at all, the most likely cause is that the ASI 9V battery needs to be replaced. Once the battery has been replaced with a fresh battery, the ASI should once again flash green. If it does not, the battery pack may be defective. In that event, the battery pack should be replaced. If the ASI is flashing red, turn the unit on, the voice prompt will indicate the nature of the problem.

2. Check the condition of the AED and accessories.

Inspect the device for dirt and contamination, especially in the connector socket and around the battery pack opening. Inspect the device visually for damage. Look for cracks or other signs of damage on the case, especially near the connector socket and joints. If any cracks or other signs of damage are visible, remove the AED from service and contact an authorized service center.

Check to ensure that the pad package has not expired. The use before date can be found on the label on the top-left of the package. Pads past their expiration date should not be used and should be discarded. Also, check to ensure that the pads package has not been torn, opened or damaged. Do not open the pads package until ready for use. Dispose of the pads if the package is open or damaged. Inspect the pads cable and replace if any nicks, cuts, or broken cables are found. Replacement pads can be ordered here. Lastly, make sure the connector end of the defibrillation cable is inserted into the pads connector port on the corner of the AED.

The expiration date can be found on the white label near the right side of the battery pack. It is important to replace your battery pack if the date has expired. The 9V lithium battery inside the battery pack should be replaced once a year or when the unit indicates “low battery” or “replace battery” and flashes the Active Status Indicator red. The 9V can be accessed by removing the 9V battery compartment cover on the battery pack.

ddc.png5. Check the Defibtech Data Card (if installed).

Make sure the Defibtech Data Card (DDC) is installed if you have one. To remove the DDC, first remove the battery pack by pressing the battery pack eject button on the side of the unit. The DDC card is located in a slot directly above the battery pack opening in the unit. To remove the DDC card, press the DDC in all the way and then release. The DDC will be partially ejected and can be removed by pulling it the rest of the way out. To install a new DDC, insert the DDC, label side up, in the thin slot on the top of the opening for the battery pack. The card should click into place and be flush with the surface of the slot. The DDC should be replaced after every use of the AED. Replacements can be ordered here.

6. Record your inspection on your AED inspection tag.

The inspection tag helps maintain records of previous inspections as well as displaying when your pads and batteries expire. If you are in need of a maintenance tag then please contact us. We can provide 1 or 2 tags for free or 10 tags for $1.
