How to check your Zoll AED Plus

Maintaining your AED Plus is an important task that is made up from a few easy steps that are necessary to make sure that your AED is in working order when you need it. It is important to not miss a single step when checking your AED, so we made a list for you.

1. Inspect unit condition.

Inspect the AED to make sure that the unit is clean, undamaged, and free of excessive wear. Confirm that there are no cracks or loose parts in the housing. Inspect the cables to confirm that they are free of cracks, cuts, and exposed or broken wires.

2. Check your electrodes and their expiration dates.

Check the packaging for your electrodes to ensure that the expiration date has not passed. The date can be found on the front label near the bottom-right corner. If your pads have expired then replacement pads can be ordered here. You should also check the date on your pediatric pads if you have them. Lastly, make sure that the cable coming from the electrodes is always plugged into the AED Plus.

Examine the label of the batteries to determine the date on the battery.  They are shelf life dates that are typically 8 years from the date the battery was made.  The installed life is only four to five years and depends on the number of self tests.  So subtract three to four years from the March XXXX date on the battery and that will tell you when to replace them. If you batteries are approaching end of life,  replacement batteries should be ordered. To access the batteries in the Zoll AED Plus, take a flat-head screw driver and depress the latches to remove the back cover. Check to make sure that the batteries are inserted correctly. Remember to push the green button to reset the timer in the back of the unit if you replaced the batteries. Do not replace only one battery at a time and do no insert less than fully charged batteries into the AED when replacing batteries. CAUTION! Use Duracell or power one batteries only. Do not use Panasonic, Rayovac, or Varta or other similar batteries. Use of Panasonic, Rayovac, or Varta batteries may result in significantly longer defibrillator charging times than those required during emergency situations.

Put a sticker on the AED with the date the batteries are installed so you will know when they will need to be done next time.

 4. Check the status indicator.

Turn the AED Plus on and off and visually verify that the green check mark appears in the status indicator to show that the unit is ready for use.

5. Check for adequate supplies.

Check to make sure that your Zoll AED CPR-D Accessory Kit contains a CPR barrier mask, scissors, gloves, prep razor, towel and a moist towelette. It is also suggested to have extra batteries on hand.

6. Record your inspection on your AED Inspection Tag.

The inspection tag helps maintain records of previous inspections as well as displaying when your pads and batteries expire.   You can order tags for $0.35/ea. on our website.
