2017 Florida Lineman Competition

 FMEA_Lakeland_Lineman_Competition

Hosted by Lakeland Electric, Tigertown was rocked by the competition of Florida's best lineman on April 21st and 22nd.  A record 74 apprentices and 26 journeyman teams competed in the 17th Annual Florida Lineman Competition.

Journeymen competed in the Deadend Bell Change, Pin & Insulator Replacement, Transformer Relocation, Vertical Hurtman Rescue and the Mystery event - Replacing a 20 foot Transmission Timber mounted on two 40 foot poles.

Apprentices competed in the Cross Arm Brace Change, Insulator Relocation, Phase Transfer, Vertical Hurtman, and the Mystery Event was a Fuse Upgrade and Knot Tying where they had to tie four knots as part of the event.

A special thanks to Lakeland Electric for hosting the event and setting up the field.  Other thanks go to the FMEA team for managing the trade show, registration and awards.

 And there were lots of awards!

Mike_Morgan_2017_Apprentice_Winner

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Apprentice race was very close with Mike Morgan from Gainesville Regional Utilities winning overall Apprentice Events with an overall score of 501 and time of 17:40.65. Congratulations Mike!

Austin Odum from Lakeland Electric came in with a close 2nd and Tyler Homan from the City of Ocala  came in third.     

 

City_of_Tallahassee_Journeymen_Winners

The City of Tallahassee came roaring in by winning four of the six places in the Overall Journeyman competition.  KUA placed 2nd and Clay placed 6th

Team 120 from the City of Tallahassee of Terry Cobb, Nick Ellis and Jason Smith won first place in the overall Journeyman Award.  Congratulations!
